Our Worship

At St. Stephen's we believe in accepting worship as the Church has handed it down to us; utilizing the traditional forms and rituals which have served the Church for centuries, without making changes to accomodate modern tastes and secular trends. The foundation of our worship is The Mass, also known as Holy Communion, the Eucharist, or The Lord's Supper. It was instituted by Jesus himself, and has been the principal expression of Christian worship since the Apostles first met after Jesus' Ascension. In the Mass, we gather to hear readings from the Scriptures, offer our prayers to God, and receive His grace in the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Communion Picture Other forms of worship have been part of the Catholic tradition as observed by the Anglican church, and can be found here at St. Stephen's. For example, from the Book of Common Prayer comes Morning and Evening Prayer, where the people gather together to recite the prayers which were once said by clergy as part of the hourly cyle of prayer throughout each day. In the Stations of the Cross, which dates back to the eleventh century, we retrace the steps of Christ on His journey to Calvary and meditate on what His sacrifice on the cross means to us.

For our Sunday Morning Worship, we use the order for the Mass in the Anglican Missal, and which is also found in the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. A listing of the format, including page numbers from both the Book of Common Prayer and "The People's Anglican Missal" (a personal-sized edition) follows.
