At St. Stephen's our Christian life does not end when our worship is over. We believe it is our duty as Christians to take the Lord Jesus out into the world, as He told us in the great commission to "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (St. Matthew 28:19-20)
St. Stephen's is actively involved in a number of community ministries. Our parishioners are always seeking ways to better the world in the name of our Lord Christ. The most important of these is the Network of Community Ministries, a coalition of churches who sponsor a food pantry and financial aid for those in temporary need. Member churches assist with volunteers, food donations and financial contributions. We also support Dallas Family Outreach, which provides aid to families in crisis situations.
Away from the Dallas area, we support the Hermanos Franciscanos, a Franciscan order in Puerto Rico which works with the poor to provide housing and community facilities. In addition to operating their monastery, they sponsor a number of mission churches.
Our clergy are also busy with various community ministries, including nursing home visits, member of the Dallas Police chaplains, and Civil Air Patrol chaplain. And laity can become involved in ministry if they desire; we have an active third-order Franciscan presence through our association with the Hermanos Franciscanos.
Although St. Stephen's is a small parish compared to many churches, we feel that we can have a positive impact upon the community through our outreach efforts. We take our mission to live with Christian love and caring quite seriously. Won't you please come and join us as we take the message of Christ's love and joy to the world!
